Wool Mother Maternity on Squarespace
Huge congrats and positive vibes to New Zealand-based shop, Wool Mother Maternity, who recently launched their shiny new Squarespace website!
A few pieces of felted wool combined with a bit of Kiwi ingenuity were the beginnings of what is now a full-fledged business offering reusable woolen products for mum and baby.
I’m honored to have been part of bringing this lovely brand to life. The moodboard for the custom brand and web design was full of soft, feminine elements, and a pinky-nude as the primary color. The vision for the site was clean and minimal, allowing her amazing products to take center stage.
Owner, Alice Brooking, and I sat down for a little post-project Q+A:
LDC: Could you tell me a bit about yourself and your background?
Alice: Myself, partner David, and son Thomas live in Dairy Flat, New Zealand. We have big dreams of building an eco-home one day and would love to live off the land, we are slowly converting to a more minimalist and reusable lifestyle. Thomas and I are plant-based and I like to be conscious of where the products I use come from, this ethic extends into my own business and being aware of where the wool I use comes from.
LDC: Other than your lifestyle, what inspired you to start Wool Mother Maternity?
Alice: I was inspired to start Wool Mother Maternity when I had to get creative in a time of need, which sparked ideas and possibilities.
LDC: Where do you hope to see your new business go?
Alice: I would love to have my merino nursing pads stocked in more online stores and also physical shops. For my website, I will be working on adding more woolen products for mum & baby from other smaller businesses and creating a little online hub.
LDC: What have been your biggest wins so far?
Alice: So far it would be getting my first online stockist for my merino nursing pads.
LDC: What lessons have you learned that you’d like to share with others just getting started in business?
Alice: Don’t let lack of funds get in the way. Do what you can with what you have and also reach out for help. You never know what may happen!
LDC: When we first met, you were planning to DIY your website. What were some of the benefits that you experienced by working with a designer?
Alice: Although I do enjoy creating websites, it was so much easier to work with Lauren and have her do it. It meant that I could focus on the content, photos and other things I needed to do. It definitely took the stress out of it and I had full faith and trust that it was going to look amazing.
LDC: What was the process like working with Lauren DeLoach Creative for your website and branding?
Alice: Lauren was amazing to work with! From start to finish I was included in the design process, she was very thorough in making sure she understood my vision, I gave her a certain amount of freedom also so she could really use her creativity and I am super happy with the result.
LDC: How have your new website and branding helped your business?
Alice: Although I am just starting, my branding and website have definitely helped gain interest and create a very professional front for my business. I've received a lot of compliments on my packaging and website and I can’t wait to get Wool Mother out there more to see how it develops over time.
LDC: Anything else you’d like to add?
Alice: I highly recommend Lauren. She is a wealth of knowledge and creativity, great and easy to work with and makes the design process smooth and straight-forward. She really captured my vision and brought it to life.
